It may be that your teen already has a diagnosis. Diagnoses we commonly see are
- mental health problems such as, anxiety, depression, OCD
- autism, and other developmental disorders such as social communication disorder, aspergers (now classed under autism spectrum disorder), and other related developmental disorders.
We will typically use a mixture of counselling and behavioural intervention, we aim to work not just with your teenager but with the family as well, so that you can both understand your teen better and know how to support them with the struggles they may be experiencing.
The way that we help your child will not depend specifically on their diagnosis, but the actual struggle they are facing. If your child is unable to speak or has limited language skills, we will get to work straight away with equipping them with more language tools.
We are passionate about helping everybody to overcome their struggles, no matter how old they are. It is true that intervention can be more rapid and effective when your child is still very young, however it is a complete myth that you cannot learn to speak or learn new skills after a certain age. We see this in the literature and we see this every day in our work. Whether your teen has to learn all of his language or whether he or she needs some more communication or social tools in his tool box, we can help you.
